Jay-Z Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Rape Accuser
Jay-Z is taking legal action.
The 55-year-old has filed a defamation suit, obtained by E! News, against the woman who alleged in a since-withdrawn complaint that Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs raped her when she was 13. Jay-Z alleges in the suit that the woman made false and defamatory statements about him for financial gain.

Attorney Tony Buzbee, his firm and attorney David Fortney are also listed as defendants in the suit, while the female accuser is listed as “Jane Doe.”
In the lawsuit, Jay-Z (real name Shawn Carter) alleged that his accuser and her lawyers “were soullessly motivated by greed, in abject disregard of the truth and the most fundamental precepts of human decency.” He also argues all parties caused harm to his reputation, both personal and professional, and that the actions were “strategically and tactically calculated and timed to inflict maximum pain and suffering on Mr. Carter.”
Jay-Z notes in the filings that he “does not commence this action lightly” while noting he “does not wish to expose his malicious and wrongful accuser’s identity in his complaint and seeks to maintain her anonymity as ‘Doe.’”
E! News has reached out to both Buzbee and Fortney for comment but has not yet heard back.
In December, the woman accused Jay-Z and Combs in a lawsuit of raping her during at a party in 2000 when she was 13. Shortly after, Jay-Z filed a motion to reveal the name of the plaintiff, however the motion was denied.
Just over two months after her filing, Jay-Z’s accuser dropped the case, as seen in documents obtained by E! News on Feb. 14. The lawsuit, per the filing, was dismissed with prejudice, meaning the plaintiff as well as her lawyers won’t be able to bring the case to court again.
“Counsel for the Plaintiff have discussed this matter with counsel for each Defendant,” the document noted,” who acknowledge and consent to this submission.”
Following the dismissal, Jay-Z shared a statement on the legal “victory.”
“The frivolous, fictitious and appalling allegations have been dismissed,” read the statement shared to Roc Nation’s X account. “This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere. The fictional tale they created was laughable, if not for the seriousness of the claims.”
However, he spoke to the lasting repercussions the suit would have on him and his family, including wife Beyoncé and daughter Blue Ivy, 13, and 7-year-old twins Rumi and Sir.
“I would not wish this experience on anyone,” he continued. “The trauma that my wife, my children, loved ones and I have endured can never be dismissed.”
Combs, meanwhile, remains in jail awaiting his May 5 trial for federal charges of sex-trafficking and racketeering—to which he’s pleaded not guilty. For his part, he’s referred to the “barrage of filings” made against him as attempts to “garner publicity.”
Drake Still Won’t Let the Kendrick Lamar ‘Not Like Us’ Beef Go
Even though Drake settled a lawsuit against iHeartMedia about the Kendrick Lamar diss track, “Not Like Us,” the rapper isn’t done fighting yet. Turns out, when it comes to legal action, Drake might just be getting started.
Legally, Drake is pursuing discovery to determine if illegal payments were made to iHeart in order to boost radio airtime to “Not Like Us,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. Overall, Drake views the content of “Not Like Us” as defamatory from a legal standpoint. So, although the defamation lawsuit has been settled—with no payments made to Drake—the battle will continue.
One of Drake’s lawyers, Michael Gottlieb, leveled serious claims: “Certain UMG [Universal Music Group] labels have engaged in pay-for-play arrangements with radio and streaming services to boost the popularity of specific songs, and used bots to artificially inflate streaming numbers,” he said.
This accusation is pretty serious since it outright states that Lamar’s hit song only became a hit because of illegal funding to make it omnipresent. Drake’s legal reps claim that “confidential sources” advised Drake of the alleged pay-for-play arrangements. So now, it’s a question of proving that claim.
As another of Drake’s lawyers, John Zavitsanos, put it in the same report: “Without this discovery, Drake cannot fairly test or refute the factual basis for UMG’s claims.” So, no matter what happens next, and whether or not Drake is proven correct or not, this beef will clearly, never, never die.
I Need Money Because…”: Cardi B Reveals $2M Shopping Spree After Divorce
Cardi B opens up about her $2 million shopping spree after her divorce. The rapper shares her luxurious lifestyle, from multi-million-dollar earnings per show to the high-end purchases she makes.
Cardi B recently opened up about her post-divorce finances and the extravagant lifestyle she maintains. The rapper, who filed for divorce from her husband Offset in the summer of 2024 after six years of marriage, revealed her major shopping spree and daily expenses during a late-night Twitter Spaces chat on March 3.
Cardi B revealed that she spent over $2 million on a shopping spree after her divorce from Offset. The shopping spree included designer bags, high-end jewelry, and other luxury items.
She proudly stated, “In October alone, I spent about $2 million just on the gifts I bought for myself. Because you know what? I’m divorced, I’m single, and shopping makes me feel good.” Among her purchases, Cardi mentioned that she bought $295,000 worth of jewelry from designer Elliot Eliantte.
The rapper stated that shopping provided her with a sense of relief and personal satisfaction, especially after the emotional challenges of her divorce.
“I’m an expensive b*tch; I love money, I breathe money, I smell money, and I need money because I got a lot of bills to pay,” she said. Cardi B’s approach to spending is unapologetically bold, and she continues to live life on her own terms.
Despite her lavish spending, Cardi B remains financially stable, thanks to her impressive earnings. She revealed that she makes up to $2.5 million per show, depending on the location. “I make $1.5 million per show in the U.S. and $2.5 million if I perform abroad,” she shared.
However, her expensive lifestyle comes with significant daily costs. In the Twitter Spaces chat, she broke down some of the bills she handles regularly. These include paying for cleaning services, car services, 24-hour security, and even the legal fees of her friends.
Cardi also revealed that she pays her nanny USD 700 a day to take care of her children. “Every single time I step out, just hair and makeup is about $4,000 to $5,000, depending on the length of the f###### hair,” Cardi said. “My outfits don’t even cost less than f###### $8,000. Just so I can step out of the house, let’s make that clear.”
Cardi B and Offset’s relationship has been turbulent since they began dating in February 2017. The couple secretly married in September 2017, but their marriage faced multiple public struggles.
In December 2018, they split due to cheating rumors, only to reconcile later. In September 2020, Cardi filed for divorce after another round of infidelity rumors, but they reconciled once again, welcoming their son Wave a year later.
In June 2023, Offset accused Cardi B of being unfaithful, a claim she denied. However, in July 2024, Cardi B confirmed that she had filed for divorce, stating her goal was to obtain primary custody of their children. A representative for Cardi B later confirmed the divorce in August 2024, confirming the end of their six-year marriage.
